The Minister for Finance has signed the European Union (Short Selling) Regulations 2012 designating the Central Bank as the competent authority. The Regulation designates the Central Bank as the competent authority, and details penalties to be imposed for failure to comply with the requirements of the EU Short Selling Reulation. On summary conviction, they can be liable to a Class A fine, and on conviction on indictment, to a fine not exceeding €500,000.
