The Irish Stock Exchange (ISE) has welcomed the European Commission’s consultation on Capital Markets Union (CMU). Furthermore, the ISE has stated that the Capital Markets Union Green Paper is an extremely important and timely objective, and that it fully supports the focus of the Green Paper on the fundamentals of capital markets.
The ISE believes public markets can play a key role in delivering to the aim of Capital Market Union, which is to provide more funding choices for companies and reducing the cost of raising capital which is essential for economic growth across Europe.
The response for the ISE sets out their vision for CMU, the priority areas that should be focussed on to achieve a successful CMU, and also outlines a recommended action plan.
These include:
- promoting EU capital markets and the benefits of IPOs,
- reducing regulatory costs for companies such as reviewing the Prospectus Directive, and
- supporting local markets and re-developing local ecosystems to support EU companies.
