The Central Bank of Ireland has published a statement in response to recent market rumours of an Irish short-selling ban in the shares of Irish Bank AIB.
In the statement, the Central Bank restates the previous prohibition on shares in Irish banks put in place on 18th September 2008, and reminds market participants that the ban no longer applied to AIB from 26 January 2011. The ban was lifted for all designated banks from midnight on 30th December 2011.
Currently there are no short selling prohibitions in application in Ireland.
