Standard & Poor`s Rating Services (S&P) affirmed Clearstream Banking`s (CBL) Counterparty Credit Rating (CCR) at ‘AA’ with Stable Outlook; thus maintaining CBL’s consistently excellent reviews.

The latest ratings reflect the bank’s crucial role in the international financial markets as an International Central Securities Depository. Underpinned by strong legal protection, Clearstream enjoys a very strong credit and financial risk framework, coupled with very prudent liquidity management, which contribute to its leading position in international post-trade securities services. Equally positive acclaim was attributed to CBL’s role as a prominent player in collateral optimisation. S&P additionally acknowledged that CBL is well positioned for TARGET2-securities (T2S) and the positive benefits therein for further settlement service developments in its share of the central securities depository market post-T2S.

Finally, S&P cites CBL’s exceptional liquidity sources and position in the top tier of global CSD operators as contributors to its strong business risk profile. Strong profitability also makes CBL a significant contributor to DBAG overall revenue.

The ratings are as follows:

  • Long-term CCR: affirmed at `AA`; Outlook Stable
  • Short-term CCR: affirmed at `A-1+`
