News reports are indicating that the Hellenic Capital Markets Commission plans to lift Greece short-selling ban on bank shares in August. The ban, applied in 2011, was scrapped on non-banking stocks in January 2013 as market confidence grew after the election of a pro-bailout government, but the restriction on bank stocks was kept in place to protect investors during the recapitalisation of the country’s four major banks. The ban is currently in place until 31 July 2013. There is no official statement to date.
