The Ministry of Employment and the Economy has announced changes to the Act on Control of Foreign Acquisitions, effective 1st July.

The Act was established to allow the government to monitor foreign acquisitions, but is limited to acquisitions in the defence sector, where mergers and acquisitions involving a company may affect the national interest.

The amendments make improvements to the monitoring and its practical procedures. In particular, changes have been made in relation to the referral of a case to the government plenary session where the acquisition has been evaluated as a potential danger to the vital national interest by the Ministry.
