On 5th February 2018, the Ontario Securities Commission published the updated Institutional Trade Matching and Settlement Rules.
These Rules govern Trade Matching procedures on Canadian Exchanges. The rules are divided into the following sections:
- Part 1 Introduction, Purpose and Definitions
- Part 2 Trade Matching Requirements
- Part 3 Information Reporting Requirements
- Part 4 Requirements For Matching Service Utilities
- Part 5 Trade Settlement
- Part 6 Requirements Of Self-Regulatory Organisations and Others
The Regulation confirms that trade matching in Canada is done electronically and automatically. This process is in place for both exchange trades and direct non-exchange trades (trades made between two participants of a clearing agency, which are generally matched through the facilities of the clearing agency).
These Rules were implemented on the 5th September 2017, however this is the first time they have been published in a consolidated form.
