On 12th September 2017, the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) and the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC) announced that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will strengthen consumer/investor protection.
The MOU will facilitate assistance between both bodies who will now exchange Regulatory Information in order to strengthen Regulation throughout Canada. This combined effort in Regulating the Market will allow each Regulator to track entities more easily and will help to ensure greater levels of Regulatory Compliance throughout Canada.
Representatives from both bodies were positive in their assessment of the MOU.
