Bulgaria has become the eleventh country to join the Special Data Dissemination Standard Plus of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), following combined compliance efforts from the Bulgarian National Bank, National Statistics Institute and the Ministry of Finance.
This standard supplements the Special Data Dissemination Standard joined by Bulgaria in 2003.
The Special Data Dissemination Standard Plus was established in 2012 to supplement the existing statistics standards, and comprises stricter statistical reporting requirements for member countries in the following:
- the scope of economic and financial data;
- the regularity and timeliness of reporting;
- the accessibility and reliability of information
Members of the Standard are able to demonstrate to foreign investors, credit rating agencies, international financial institutions and all other users that the quality and reliability of statistical data used for making important macroeconomic and business decisions are consistent with the highest international statistical requirements.
To date, the USA, Japan, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic have joined the Special data Dissemination Standard Plus.
