On 1st March 2018, the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) updated its validation rules regarding the European Markets Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR). These changes revised the technical standards required for reporting under Article 9 of EMIR.
The changes to the validation rules for the reports will:
- Allow for the reporting of exchange-traded derivatives in products for which the effective date may be earlier than the date of execution; and
- Clarify how the identification of the product should be validated in the reports submitted on or after 3rd January 2018.
The validation rules must be met by firms who are reporting under EMIR for their reports to be deemed compliant by ESMA.
