The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has issued to the Risk Dashboard No.4 2017, covering risks in the EU’s securities markets for the 3rd Quarter 2017. ESMA’s overall risk assessment remains unchanged from the previous quarter which recognised high risk levels.

In the 3rd Quarter of 2017, ESMA found that EU financial markets remained relatively calm, although reactive to global geopolitical events. The uncertainty over Brexit and its outcomes has been identified by ESMA as being the main risk affecting financial stability across EU Markets.

This was reflected in increased market expectations of the near-term volatility following global political tensions. While market and credit risks remain very high, ESMA’s outlook for credit risk has declined reflecting improvements in risk indicators. The outlook for liquidity and contagion risk is stable.
