It has been reported that on 4th January 2016, trading on the Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges were suspended after shares fell seven percent. Trading had been halted earlier in the session for 15 minutes after the stock market fell by 5%. However, once trading resumed, shares continued to fall, leading regulators to end trading early.

This was the first time the new circuit breaker mechanism has intervened to curb market volatility. Under the new regulations, which were introduced in December, moves of 7% from the previous session’s close will trigger a trading suspension for the day.

This information will be updated as soon as further details become available.
