On 13th  February 2018, the Santiago Stock Exchange (SSE) outlined its proposals to upgrade the  Equity Markets Regulation.

From 2014 to 2017, SSE  worked with market participants and Regulators to refine these proposals. Most of this work was carried out by an Ad Hoc Committee which is comprised of the Directors of the SSE.

The SSE has now published these proposals and has outlined the time frame for their implementation.

The first phase of proposals were implemented on January 29th , 2018. The following proposals were implemented:

  • Compatible buy and sell orders matching
  • Automatic trading halt and trading resumption model using a volatility auction when predefined price ranges are exceeded
  • Anonymous market (blind screen)
  • Establishment of a mechanism to trade low liquidity stocks
  • Auction trading mechanisms (items 9, 10 and 11 of the Proposals)
  • Termination of open Outcry on the Trading floor

The second phase of proposals will be implemented in the Second Quarter of 2018 (no date specified):

  • Closing Price, Closing Auction, Orders At Closing Prices (items 1, 2 and 3 of the Proposals)
  • Placing Orders with Payable today (T+0) and Payable Tomorrow (T+1) Conditions
