Prime Minister Stephen Harper has tabled the Canada-Europe Trade Agreement Summary of the Negotiated Outcomes in the House of Commons.
The 30-page document, entitled Technical Summary of the Negotiated Outcomes: The Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement, provides an outline of the agreement in principle.
Under the terms of the agreement, investment restrictions will be less stringently applied to EU investors making investments in Canada, including uranium investment – EU investors will be exempted from requirement of first finding a Canadian partner. The Investment Canada Act will continue to apply, but with a higher review threshold of $1.5bn. National security considerations will continue to be protected.
