On 11th April 2018, the Vienna Stock Exchange welcomed the Austrian Governments commitment to reintroduce trading of bearer shares in the Third Market.

This development will remove long-standing obstacles and will give Austrian medium-sized companies access to the capital market. The exchange-regulated “Third Market” is a market which allows small companies to access the Vienna Stock Exchanges, it also facilitates the development of companies on the domestic capital market.

The Third Market as a stock exchange-regulated market (also called MTF – Multilateral Trading Facility)  has grown  in recent times. In 2017 alone, seven companies based outside Austria were quoted on the Vienna Stock Exchange on their own initiative.

Following the Government’s commitment to the third market the Vienna Stock Exchange is hoping that legislation will be enacted as soon as possible.
