The Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) has released a consultation paper examining issues that have arisen around the methodology for allocating ISINs issued by ASX over listed equity and other products, through its role as a National Numbering Agency. The main proposal in the paper is a change to the current structure by replacing the ASX Code (currently a key input under the existing ISIN process) with a unique number that does not include the ASX Code. Existing ISINs will remain unchanged if the proposal proceeds.

Comments on the consultation should be submitted to ASX by 31 October 2013.
