It has been reported that trading on the Nairobi Securities Exchange has been suspended due to tax disputes. The Kenya Association of Stockbrokers and Investment Banks (KASIB) has stated that the suspension will allow for consultation over the contentious capital gains tax reintroduced by the government this year.
This directive will be effective from 19th February for the next 19 trading days pending a ruling from Kenya’s High Court.
Kenya’s Capital Markets Authority (CMA) has threatened to fine stockbrokers of the Nairobi bourse if they suspend trading.
This information will be updated as soon as further details become available.
