On the 23rd November 2017, Nasdaq Dubai and Nairobi Securities Exchange signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate the creation of a Sukuk sector in Kenya.

This development will allow the first Sukuk Bonds to be issued in the East African region.

The MoU will enable the two exchanges to collaborate when assisting with the issuance and listing of Sukuk bonds by the Kenyan government, government-related entities and private businesses.

Additionally, the Exchanges’ aim to promote Islamic capital markets products and solutions in general, and exchange information and experiences relating to the markets in Dubai and Kenya.
