On the 3rd November 2017, the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) updated its list of countries with anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorist financing (CFT) deficiencies.
The report contains the following list of states that have recently expressed their willingness to enforce an action plan, co-ordinated with FATF, to address the serious shortcomings that exist in this area:
- Bosnia and Herzegovina
- Ethiopia
- Iraq
- Yemen
- Sri Lanka
- Syria
- Trinidad and Tobago
- Tunisia
- Vanuatu
Notably Uganda has been removed from the above list and is no longer subject to the FATF’s on-going global AML/CFT compliance process.
The FATF is satisfied that Uganda has established the legal and regulatory framework to meet the commitments in its action plan regarding the strategic deficiencies that the FATF had identified in February 2014.
