On 31st May 2018, the financial market authorities of the United Kingdom (Financial Conduct Authority), the Netherlands (Authority for the Financial Markets), Belgium (Financial Services and Markets Authority) France (Financial Markets Regulator), Ireland (Central Bank of Ireland) Portugal (Securities Market Commission), signed a new co-operation agreement on the coordination of Euronext’s regulation and control.
This agreement replaces the agreement previously signed in March 2015. It references the integration of the Central Bank of Ireland into the College of Regulators of Euronext, this took place following Euronext’s acquisition of the Irish Stock Exchange, now Euronext Dublin which occured on 26th March 2018.
The College of Regulators of Euronext was established to create a coherent and effective common regulatory framework between the different competent national authorities responsible for overseeing Euronext. It was created soon after the Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris stock exchanges merged in 2000 to form Euronext and has evolved over the years as the pan-European stock market has evolved.
The new cooperation agreement was signed in Brussels during the meeting of the Presidents’ Committee of the College, currently chaired by the FSMA.
