The Indian Department of Policy and Promotion has reviewed the extant policy on India FDI in the pharmaceutical sector. Under the new regulations brownfield investments (i.e. investments in existing companies) now require government approval effective immediately. India FDI, up to 100%, under the automatic route, will continue to be permitted for greenfield investments in the pharmaceuticals sector.
