It is being reported that the Ministry of Finance is debating whether to remove the requirement for India Qualified Foreign Investors (QFI) to acquire and furnish a Permanent Account Number, currently e prerequisite for registration under the rules introduced in January 2012. Tax experts had pointed to several practical difficulties in a foreigner getting a PAN in India. The documentation process was also said to be too cumbersome.
