The BSE has announced that in pursuance of SEBI Circular CIR /MRD/DP/20/2012 dated August 2, 2012 and Section 2 (Direct Market Access) of Chapter 2 (Trading Software and Technology) of SEBI Master Circular no. CIR/MRD/DP/9/2015 dated May 26, 2015, the Direct Market Access Facilty can be extended to the below categories of FPI investors.

The categories of FPI investors are as below:

Category I foreign portfolio investor which shall include:

  • Government and Government related investors such as central banks, Governmental agencies, sovereign wealth funds and international or multilateral organizations or agencies;

Category II foreign portfolio investor which shall include:

  • Appropriately regulated broad based funds such as mutual funds, investment trusts, insurance/reinsurance companies;
  • Appropriately regulated persons such as banks, asset management companies, investment managers/ advisors, portfolio managers;
  • Broad based funds that are not appropriately regulated but whose investment manager is appropriately regulated
  • University funds and pension funds; and
  • University related endowments already registered with the Board as foreign institutional investors or sub-accounts.

Category III foreign portfolio investor which shall include:

  • All others not eligible under Category I and II foreign portfolio investors such as endowments, charitable societies, charitable trusts, foundations, corporate bodies, trusts, individuals and family offices.
